GAMGAMA: WHERE BEIRUT MEETS THE BRAZILIAN COAST

A DESIGNER SHAPED BY A COUNTRY

The designer behind GamGama has lived in Brazil her whole life, and it shows in every piece she creates. Her collections carry the warmth, movement, and color of a country defined by its coastline, its craft traditions, and its unmistakable sense of joy. When we sat down to design her flagship, we knew the space itself had to carry that same DNA. Not literally. Not as a set of postcard clichés. But as a feeling.

So we asked ourselves: what does Brazil feel like when it’s translated into architecture? The answer became a palette of warm terracotta and sand tones, tactile leather-textured walls, woven rattan furniture with palm-frond silhouettes, and a rug at the heart of the space that reads like a Rio sunset caught mid-swirl.

THE CENTERPIECE: A CHANDELIER YOU CAN WEAR

At the core of GamGama hangs the piece that defines the entire experience: a suspended, multi-tiered installation of glowing rings and mirrored discs that cascades from the upper floor all the way down through the store. From a distance, it reads as a sculptural chandelier. Up close, it reveals itself as something far more interesting: a functional display system where handbags, shoes, and accessories are suspended within the rings themselves.

This is the idea we kept coming back to during the design process. Why should the most striking object in a luxury store exist purely for looks, disconnected from the product? Instead, the centerpiece becomes a living gallery. A Louis Vuitton tote rests inside one ring, a pair of embroidered heels balances on a mirrored shelf below it, a bucket bag hangs from a rope-wrapped column just beside it. As you walk around the space, the arrangement shifts, catches new light, and reveals new details, the same way a piece of kinetic art would.

The rings themselves are finished in warm brass and soft-glowing LED edges, some clear, some tinted a translucent rose or magenta, echoing the colors of the rug beneath them. Slender rope-wrapped poles anchor the entire structure from ceiling to floor, giving it the feel of a beach cabana reimagined for a maison. It’s playful. It’s precise. And above all, it’s proof that a display fixture can be an artwork in its own right, not a backdrop to one.

A RUG THAT SETS THE TONE

If the centerpiece is the room’s sculpture, the rug is its brushstroke. Underfoot, an abstract swirl of magenta, teal, gold, and cobalt spreads across the floor like paint caught mid-motion. It is the single boldest gesture in the space, and intentionally so. Every other surface, the walls, the columns, the carpet beyond it, sits in warm neutral tones, so that this one moment of color can carry all the energy of the Brazilian coastline it was inspired by.

We treated the rug almost like a piece of contemporary art laid flat. It’s the first thing you see through the storefront glass, and it does exactly what we wanted the entire concept to do: stop people mid-step and pull them inside.

MATERIALS WITH MEMORY

Throughout GamGama, we leaned into materials that feel handcrafted rather than manufactured. Leather-textured wall paneling wraps the columns and walls in a soft, tactile finish. Rattan and woven cane furniture, including a striking palm-inspired armchair, bring in the artisanal, sun-worn quality of coastal Brazilian design. A fringed metallic curtain catches the light near the staircase, shimmering the way sunlight does on water. Even the embossed wall panels near the fitting rooms carry a repeating monogram motif, pressed into a warm ochre surface that feels almost like sand.

Nothing in this space was chosen for decoration alone. Every texture was selected to build a sensory bridge between where the designer grew up and where her clients now shop.

A SPIRAL STAIRCASE AND A VERTICAL STORY

GamGama unfolds across more than one level, connected by a glass-and-brass spiral staircase that lets the hanging centerpiece continue its story upward. Standing at the base and looking up, the rings and mirrored discs multiply and reflect against the mezzanine above, creating a sense of infinite depth in a relatively intimate footprint. It’s a reminder that luxury retail doesn’t need scale to feel expansive. It needs intention.

DOWNTOWN BEIRUT’S NEWEST DESTINATION

GamGama has landed in the heart of downtown Beirut, and it was built to hold its own in a neighborhood that expects nothing less than the exceptional. From the storefront, passersby catch a glimpse of the suspended centerpiece glowing above that swirl of color underfoot, an invitation that’s impossible to walk past. Step inside, and the space reveals itself slowly: a dress rack framed by an arched mirror here, a quiet nook lined with bags and heels there, each corner composed with the same care as the last.

This is a store built for discovery. Every ring, every shelf, every reflection is placed to reward a second look.

A CONCEPT BUILT ON IDENTITY

At the studio, we believe the strongest spaces are the ones that tell a true story, not a manufactured one. GamGama works because it isn’t design for design’s sake. It’s a translation of a real designer’s real relationship with a real place, rendered in brass, leather, rope, and color. The centerpiece isn’t just beautiful. It’s the physical expression of a philosophy: that fashion, art, and architecture don’t have to live in separate rooms.
